Short term insurance Business Development – SSSTIBD

Introduction:

This role is a highly client-facing position that involves regular on-the-road, face-to-face engagements with clients. The ideal candidate must be exceptionally client-centric, well-presented, and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills. A deep understanding of short-term insurance—across both personal and commercial lines—is essential. As the first point of contact for prospective clients, the broker must be confident, solutions-driven, and able to provide expert guidance tailored to each client’s unique insurance needs.

 

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements: 

  • Matriculation certificate
  • RE5 certification
  • Relevant NQF level 4 or 5 qualification with a minimum of 120 credits.
  • Class of business certificates for both personal and commercial lines.
  • Proven experience in handling both personal and commercial lines.
  • Own vehicle
  • Valid driver’s license

 

Primary Responsibilities:

As a Short-Term Insurance Broker specialising in new business development, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Achieving a monthly minimum target of R5 000.00 in new business commissions, typically requiring the successful placement of 10–12 policies per month.
  • Conducting thorough due diligence to assess whether a client is categorized as low, medium, or high risk.
  • Identifying client needs and recommending appropriate insurance solutions, including the completion of a formal needs analysis.
  • Obtaining quotations from a wide range of insurers, including but not limited to Old Mutual, Santam, Discovery, PPS, Rodel, Echelon, Auto & General, Momentum, CIB, CCiRC and King Price.
  • Meeting with clients face-to-face to present, review, and explain insurance quotations. Presenting a quote comparison to the client.
  • Providing accurate, comprehensive, and compliant insurance advice, documented in a detailed Record of Advice (ROA).
  • Ensuring full compliance with all regulatory requirements under the FAIS, FICA, and POPI Acts.
  • Obtaining and verifying client documentation, including ID copies and proof of residence.
  • Completing onboarding questionnaires for clients who have been approved for onboarding.
  • Maintaining a strong and active pipeline of prospective clients to consistently achieve monthly targets.

Please note: Cold calling and lead sourcing are not required, as leads are supplied through inbound call-centre agents and through collaboration with the life, tax, and billing departments.
