The Construction Manager will be responsible for leading, managing, and coordinating all construction activities related to the refurbishment of a Water Works Treatment Plant. The role requires ensuring that the project is delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with contractual, technical, and statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Overall management and supervision of construction activities on site
- Planning, coordinating, and controlling civil, concrete, electrical, and mechanical works
- Managing site teams, subcontractors, and suppliers
- Ensuring compliance with project specifications, drawings, and contract requirements
- Monitoring project progress, programme, and budgets
- Ensuring compliance with Occupational Health & Safety regulations and environmental standards
- Liaising with clients, consulting engineers, project managers, and authorities
- Attending site meetings and preparing progress reports
- Ensuring quality control and adherence to construction standards
- Managing risk, identifying potential delays, and implementing corrective actions
- Overseeing commissioning and handover processes
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the construction industry
- Proven experience in Water & Sanitation infrastructure projects
- Experience in Water Treatment Works or similar refurbishment projects
- Bachelor’s Degree / BTech in Civil Engineering or equivalent
- Professional Registration with ECSA (Pr Eng / Pr Tech Eng)
(Candidates registered as “Candidate Engineers” will not be considered)
Additional Qualifications & Experience (Advantageous)
- Postgraduate qualification in Construction Management or Project Management
- SACPCMP registration (Professional Construction Manager – Pr CM)
- Experience managing multidisciplinary works (civil, mechanical, electrical)
- Strong knowledge of FIDIC / GCC contracts
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
