Junior Merchandiser – SSJM

Main job function 

The Junior Merchandise Planner supports the planning team with day-to-day tasks to help make sure the right products are in the right stores at the right time. This role is entry-level and focuses on learning the planning process while assisting with data, reports, stock checks, and basic forecasting to help the business achieve sales and stock goals.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Merchandise Planning Support

Assist with preparing basic sales and stock forecasts.

Help track sales against targets and flag any differences.

Support in building seasonal and in-season merchandise plans.

 

  1. Stock & Inventory Management

Monitor stock levels across stores and assist with replenishment.

Help with allocation of stock to stores.

Identify slow-moving products and assist in markdown planning.

  1. Reporting & Data

 Prepare simple sales and stock reports (weekly/monthly).

Collect and organise data on product performance, sizes, and colours.

Assist in reviewing past sales data to support planning decisions.

 

  1. Team & Cross-Department Support

 

Work with buyers to support seasonal planning.

Communicate with store operations on stock needs.

Assist the supply chain team with delivery and stock follow-ups.

 

  1. General Administration

 Keep planning spreadsheets, systems, and databases updated.

Assist the Senior Planner with admin tasks, reports, and presentations.

 

Employment Terms:

 The candidate will be employed on an initial 3-month contractual basis.

Upon successful performance and review, the contract will be extended for a further 3 months (total of 6 months combined).

After the completion of the 6-month period, and subject to performance, the candidate will be considered for permanent employment within the company.

 

Performance Criteria for Contract Review:

At 3-Month Review (Extension Criteria):

Accuracy and timeliness of sales and stock reporting.

Demonstrates ability to work with planning spreadsheets and systems with minimal errors.

Reliability in meeting deadlines and completing assigned tasks.

Positive teamwork and willingness to learn from the Senior Planner.

Basic understanding of stock flow, replenishment, and product performance analysis.

 

At 6-Month Review (Permanent Employment Criteria): 

Consistently accurate reporting and analysis that supports planning decisions.

Demonstrates initiative in identifying stock or sales issues and suggesting solutions.

Effective communication and collaboration with buying, operations, and supply chain teams.

Improved proficiency in Excel and planning tools.

Ability to manage tasks independently with minimal supervision.

Shows growth potential to take on more advanced planning responsibilities.
