My client is seeking an Industrial Engineer that will be willing to work shifts. You will be responsible for optimizing warehouse operations through the design, analysis, and implementation of efficient systems and processes. This role focuses on improving productivity, reducing costs, and enhancing the overall efficiency of the warehouse. The Industrial Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions that align with the company’s operational goals.
Main job function
Key Responsibilities:
- Process Improvement:
- Analyze current warehouse processes, including receiving, storage, picking, packing, and shipping, to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement.
- Develop and implement optimized workflows, layouts, and material handling strategies to increase productivity and reduce operational costs.
- Conduct time and motion studies to evaluate labor efficiency and recommend process improvements.
- Facility Layout and Design:
- Design and optimize warehouse layouts to maximize space utilization, improve flow, and enhance safety.
- Collaborate with the facilities team to plan and implement changes in warehouse infrastructure, including racking, conveyor systems, and storage solutions.
- Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Collect and analyze data on warehouse operations to monitor performance metrics, such as order accuracy, throughput, and labor productivity.
- Create and maintain dashboards and reports to track key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide insights to management.
- Use statistical methods and modeling techniques to forecast demand, plan inventory levels, and optimize resource allocation.
- Inventory Management:
- Collaborate with inventory management teams to ensure accurate inventory levels, reduce stockouts, and minimize excess inventory.
- Implement and monitor inventory control systems to improve accuracy and reduce inventory-related costs.
- Labor Management:
- Develop labor standards and productivity benchmarks to optimize workforce deployment.
- Work with HR and operations management to plan staffing levels based on forecasted demand and workload.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives, such as Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen, to enhance warehouse efficiency and reduce waste.
- Train and mentor warehouse staff on process improvements, best practices, and new technologies.
- Technology Integration:
- Evaluate and recommend warehouse management systems (WMS), automation technologies, and other tools to improve operational efficiency.
- Assist in the implementation and integration of new technologies into existing warehouse operations.
- Health and Safety:
- Ensure all process improvements and facility designs comply with health and safety regulations.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement measures to mitigate potential hazards in the warehouse environment.
- Project Management:
- Lead and manage projects related to warehouse optimization, including scope definition, resource planning, timeline management, and stakeholder communication.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project execution and alignment with business objectives.
Qualifications
- Education: BEng Degree: Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience in industrial engineering, preferably within a warehouse or distribution center environment
- Certification in Lean, Six Sigma, or similar process improvement methodologies.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar software for layout design.
- Strong analytical skills with experience in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, SQL, PowerQuery, PowerBI).
- Knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS) and inventory management software.
- Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Proficiency in simulation modelling and tools such AnyLogic or similar software.
- Experience with automation and warehouse robotics.
- Familiarity with ERP systems, such as SAP or Oracle.
