Estimator and Team Manager (SSETM)

Main job function

The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately evaluating the cost of electrical and control board manufacturing projects and determining the financial feasibility of taking on those projects. The candidate will have a strong understanding of electrical panel and control board components, manufacturing processes, and labour requirements. They will be familiar with the company’s competitive advantages and will be able to communicate these effectively throughout the bidding and tendering process. In addition, the candidate will co-ordinate the flow of the quotes for the entire department and lead the team to be a more efficient commercial department

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for electrical and control boards, including power distribution boards, MCCs, PLC panels, and custom-built control panels
  • Maintain knowledge of competitive advantages, supplier pricing, and market trends within the electrical manufacturing industry to support the bidding process
  • Analyse electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials (BOMs) to produce accurate estimates
  • Obtain and evaluate accurate quotes for electrical components, enclosures, copper, wiring, PLCs, instrumentation, and protection devices
  • Estimate labour costs related to panel wiring, assembly, testing, FAT, and commissioning support
  • Resolve cost discrepancies by collecting, comparing, and analysing supplier, labour, and historical project data
  • Work closely with engineering, procurement, and production teams to ensure estimates are practical and aligned with manufacturing capabilities
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality, compliance, or safety standards

Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification

Criteria

  • Strong familiarity with electrical drawings, blueprints, and control schematics
  • Knowledge of electrical standards and compliance requirements (e.g. IEC, SANS)
  • 3-5 years’ experience in electrical panel manufacturing, construction, or industrial projects preferred
