Reporting line:
o Operations Manager / Contracts Manager
Main Purpose:
o Maintains production targets for each site and ensure each site operates within prescribed costs budgets and time frames.
o Co-ordinates and controls the activities of site staff and ensure all work complies with the quality standards as set out in the contract.
Qualifications
Education and Experience Requirements:
o Relevant Degree or Diploma
o SACPCMP registration or similar preferable
o At least 5 years of experience in a similar (operational experience preferred) position in the civil engineering sector
o Strong experience in planning and programming (MS Projects and or Candy)
o Proficiency in Microsoft Office
o Strong Excel skills
o Strong organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills.
o Strong verbal and written communication skills.
o Self-motivated to learn new concepts and participate in new projects

Criteria
Specific Responsibilities:
o Pre project preparation
o To be familiar with project documents, especially:
− Project specification
− Special conditions and Qualifications
− Ensure all contractual requirements are fulfilled, checklists completed and arrangements made for first official site meeting
− Existing services / Wayleaves and Permits
− Camp and job establishment
− Company organisational arrangements
− Commencement of works
− Quantities taken off and materials ordered
o Plan the productivity of Foremen and teams by:
− Team Management and overall management of work on site
− Allocating and explaining the work delegated to team
− Prior to each operation, discuss the requirements with team
− Instruct in detail regarding each process and especially on common errors, and quality standards
− Ensure daily planning is done with all foreman and other site staff
− Hold regular (at least weekly) meetings to update progress and requirements
o Supervise the productivity of all Foreman by:
− Overseeing all work set out by doing periodic and independent checks.
− Checking the progress and sequence of construction
− Highlighting critical activities and monitoring the critical path
− Making efficient use of plant, labour and materials
− Monitoring material usage and taking steps to control wastage
− Checking on the quality of processes and products
− Actively applying a policy of defect prevention
o Maintain progress in accordance with the programme and budget by:
− Adhering to set out programmes and specifications
− Maintaining an updated programme
− Monitoring and checking accuracy of work done.
− Timeously informing Project Manager of variances and any inability to meet deadlines, specifications etc.
− Liaise with Client, Engineer, Local Authorities etc. to fulfil all necessary contract requirements.
o Maintain a safe and secure site by:
− Conforming to legal and safety requirements
− Ensuring that all plant, tools, equipment, offices etc. are secure
− All plant is regularly checked, fueled, serviced and used and stored correctly.
o Enhance the Company image by maintaining a tidy site and by minimising inconvenience to the public.
o Ensure industrial peace by maintaining good labour relations in accordance with company procedures.

The employee will be expected to perform any task, within the scope of his/her abilities, in order to ensure completion of the project on time, within budget, and to required specifications. This job description will be an important tool for training and development as well as a guideline to minimum performance standards.
Remuneration Package
• Contract: Permanent; office & site based.
• Office hours:
Monday to Thursday: 08h00 to 17h00
Friday: 08h00 to 15h00
Saturday and Sunday: ad hoc basis.
• Salary will be in the region of R 35 000.00 to R 45 000.00 gross remuneration per month
• Inclusive of gross remuneration will be:
o Car Allowance.
o Pension Fund (10%) Contribution – Employer 5% and Employee 5%.
o Cell phone allowance.
• Annual leave consisting of 15 working days per annum, with a forced shutdown during December to be kept in mind.
• Starting date: as soon as possible.
