Registered Town Planner – SSRTP

Main Job Function

Our client is seeking a registered Professional Town Planner to join their multidisciplinary built environment consultancy. This role is suited to a practitioner who is not only technically competent, but capable of independently managing planning processes, engaging stakeholders, and driving development approvals within complex regulatory environments. The successful candidate will play a central role in the preparation, management, and delivery of planning applications and spatial planning initiatives, with exposure to housing and land development programs.

Minimum Requirements

  • Registered as a Professional Planner (Pr. Plan) with South African Council for Planners for a minimum of 2 years
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in town and regional planning
  • Relevant degree in Town Planning or equivalent (BTRP / BSc / B Plan or higher)
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for site visits and stakeholder engagements.

Core Experience Required

The candidate must demonstrate practical experience in:

  • Preparation and management of development applications (rezoning, consent use, subdivision, consolidation)
  • Lodgment and processing of municipal planning applications
  • Drafting and contributing to:
    • Spatial Development Frameworks (SDFs)
    • Precinct Plans
    • Local Area Plans
  • Understanding and working within Integrated Development Plans (IDPs)
  • Experience in housing developments, informal settlement upgrading, and/or title deed programs will be highly advantageous
  • Familiarity with provincial and municipal planning legislation and processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and prepare a range of statutory planning applications from inception to approval
  • Engage with municipal officials, project stakeholders, and professional teams
  • Provide strategic planning input into development feasibility and project structuring
  • Compile high-quality planning reports and supporting documentation
  • Monitor regulatory processes and proactively address delays or objections
  • Contribute to spatial planning initiatives and policy-aligned development proposals
  • Support multidisciplinary coordination across engineering, environmental, and architectural inputs.
