Our client based in Gauteng in the Engineering sector are currently seeking the skills of a Sales Manager
Main job function
Sales Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, motivate, and manage a diverse team of sales representatives, key account managers, internal sales coordinators, and technical sales engineers.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, coaching sessions, and skills development plans.
- Create a positive, accountable, high-performance sales culture.
- Recruit, onboard, and train new sales staff
Sales Strategy & Planning
- Develop and implement annual sales strategies aligned with company targets and operational capabilities.
- Define sales KPIs, territory allocations, and product/market segments.
- Conduct market research to identify new opportunities, industry trends, and emerging technologies.
- Prepare accurate sales forecasts, reports, and market intelligence dashboards.
Customer Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key industrial clients, OEMs, contractors, consulting engineers, distributors, and EPC companies.
- Drive customer satisfaction through consistent follow-up, technical support, and value added service.
- Resolve escalated customer issues and ensure smooth handling by internal sales and service teams.
Technical & Product Knowledge
- Understand engineering drawings, production processes, and manufactured components (mechanical, electrical, or electromechanical).
- Present technical solutions to clients, including product demonstrations and site visits.
- Work collaboratively with engineering, production, and quality departments to ensure accurate costing, feasibility, and delivery timelines.
- Support the creation of proposals, quotations, and engineered solutions
Business Development
- Identify and develop new business opportunities in target industries (manufacturing, mining, energy, automotive, food & beverage, utilities, OEMs, engineering firms).
- Grow the company’s footprint within existing accounts through cross-selling and solution-based selling.
- Represent the company at industry events, exhibitions, trade shows, and client workshops.
Operational & Administrative Management
- Oversee sales budgets, pricing strategies, discount structures, and profitability.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, CRM utilization, sales administration, and reporting standards.
- Collaborate with Finance on credit control, payment terms, and contract negotiations.
- Maintain accurate records of leads, quotations, pipelines, and orders.
Qualifications
- National Diploma or Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related).
- Business Management / Sales Management qualification advantageous.
Criteria
- Minimum 5–10 years sales experience in an engineering, manufacturing, or technical environment.
- At least 3–5 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Proven success in managing medium-to-long sales cycles involving engineered or customized products.
- Experience working with diverse customers and multicultural sales teams.
- Familiarity with CRM systems, tender processes, and technical quoting.
Technical Competencies
- Strong understanding of engineering principles and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to read technical drawings and interpret specifications.
- Experience in solution selling and technical product presentations.
