Job Description:

A leading Company based in PMB, Durban is seeking a Technical Support Engineer to join their team

Main job function

Technical Support (Design and Project Management of Equipment) — Primary role Cost and time management of projects related to machine designing for testing, specifying of individual electro-mechanical components

Interaction with suppliers, internal Toolroom and Maintenance departments to provide solutions

In-depth knowledge of design specifications for electrical and mechanical process and automation technologies

Design and Draughting in Solid Works Product Development — Secondary role (support) Cost and time management of all related projects for products in a high voltage environment                  Prototype samples manufacturing Manufacturing process design and implementation — Distribution and Transmission

Hardware products, inclusive of the following (not exhaustive) of Strings, excluding insulators and aluminum cast products to Wire form products, development and implementation of Small hardware components forming part of a different value stream (e.g. fuse cut-out components) only production implementation of Continuous improvement of products and manufacturing processes in respect to design

Quality Management (support)

Assist the Quality department in the reduction of production waste in the hardware manufacturing departments

Provide guidance to the receipt inspection team on all related incoming materials to be used on related products

Assist with guidelines during the supplier qualification and audit processes

Sales and Marketing

Assist in the compilation of tenders and other customer enquiries relating to equipment manufacture


Matric with Maths and Science or equivalent

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical/Electro-Mechanical Engineering, preferably BSC(Eng.)


Experience in the electrical power transmission and distribution industry a distinct advantage

A minimum of 5 years of design projects experience in a manufacturing environment

Experience in electrical/mechanical projects essential — minimum 3 years

Experience in specification of electrical/mechanical equipment essential in process and automation plants — minimum 3 years

Experience in CAD/Draughting essential — Solid Works 3 D — minimum 5 years

Experience in design of hydraulic and pneumatic systems

Legal Knowledge Required (as amended):

Engineering Profession Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act

Basic understanding of South African labour laws

ISO 9001 Quality Management Standard and Related Systems

CADD (Computer Aided Design and Draughting) - Intermediate to Advanced Level

Project Management Tools — Microsoft Project — Intermediate to Advanced Level

Microsoft Office: PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Projects — Intermediate to Advanced Level

ERP understanding — Basic Level
