Main job function
Contribute to the overall systems engineering activities related to delegated tasks. Draft and present relevant systems engineering documentation in accordance with delegated tasks to be presented and reviewed. This will include outputs required to perform the task to obtain desired deliverables including:
System Engineering Management – Participating and contributing towards having systems engineering achieving goals and objectives through complying with established standards and policies and providing recommendations to improve processes.
System Architecture and Design Management – Communicating changes effectively and produce documentation that can effectively and systematically reviewed, evaluated and approved, resolve conflicts between requirements, architecture and design, determine and confirm the scope and bounds of the system and how it must interact with it’s environment, decompose system requirements into lower level requirements
Elicitation – Identify requirements sources such as stakeholders, operational environment and general domain knowledge, conduct elicitation techniques for meeting, interview, observations, testing, scenarios, prototypes and conceptional models
Requirement Architectural and Design Validation – Actively participate in reviews of requirement and comply with established standards, perform prototypes and modeling to validate interpretation of requirements, architecture and designs, identify related problems before resources are committed to addressing architecture and designs
Design Strategy - Implement the design strategy Address construction-level detailed design issues, produce appropriate documentation and identify conflicts with architectural or high-level design decisions
Testing - Perform appropriate systems engineering testing, generate test instructions, ensure traceability is maintained, maintain test records
Configuration - All documentation to be configured in accordance with internal configuration management policies and procedures, issue tracking to be conducted in accordance with established standards and procedures, actively participate in formal baseline establishments, adherence to ECR processes and procedures, preservation of the integrity and traceability of the configuration throughout the system life cycle
Budget and Project Outputs - Provide inputs required for project scoping (work breakdown, coordination), provide inputs for project scheduling and estimation (timescales, required level-of effort) identify assumptions and potential risks to be considered during estimation and scoping, suggest risk reduction and mitigation measures, identify opportunities for project artefact reuse, identify opportunities for efficiency and savings
Input to Contractor and Supplier Management – Provide input required for contractors and suppliers
Divisional and Project Team Goals - Actively manage the system engineering process to ensure the achievement of divisional and project team goals
Support for internal clients – Provide cooperation and support for: Marketing and business development Production Project office. Project development R&D projects
Grade 12, BA IN Electronics/ Computer Engineering, Masters or Doctoral will be an advantage
10 years’ experience in the electronic engineering field Hardware and software R&D experience (non-negotiable) Gas detection technologies experience beneficial Intrinsic Safety experience beneficial Knowledge of Collision Warning and Detection technologies SCADA Instrumentation and Control Familiar with wireless communication technologies Experience in developing for harsh environmental conditions Familiar with certification procedures at SABS, MSHA, ATEx, ANZEx Experience in working in a multi-disciplinary environment (advantages
