Job Description:

Large international school based in Johannesburg North seeks well rounded, dynamic “IT fundi” to join their team

Main job function

Lead the integration of various complex enterprise level servers and systems

Manage and administer servers and systems to ensure system availability and integrity

Assemble and load servers with the Hyper-V clustering role, ensuring that networking and storage works with the hypervisor and VM’s

Plan, design, and implement identified special technology projects

Oversee the evaluation of system performance and recommend improvements

Manage and oversee day to day operations of Active Directory, Office 365, Google Suite, Azure

Coordinate the troubleshooting and the support calls with external providers

Automating regular repetitive technology tasks and actions using scripting tools like PowerShell and VB

Prepare technical and functional documentations for required systems

Prepare and maintain accurate Standard Operating Procedures for all servers and systems that you are responsible for

Perform root cause analysis of complex server system problems and provide corrective action

Proactively monitor backups and server logs

Process and document alerts raised by alert software for proactive fixing

Maintain and develop dashboards to flag issues using tools like PowerBi, PRTG etc

Proactively monitor client updates using SCCM or WSUS

Work with a change control policy on any changes

Ensure all devices and systems are protected and secure using various tools like anti-virus, firewalls, monitoring tools. At this stage we’re using McAfee and FortiGate.

Compile monthly reports for the IT Manager that includes backup, system health, server and client updates, AV, security and disaster recovery reports.

Implement and maintain different policies like Security, Disaster, Anti-Virus, Password policies 

Execute duties in accordance with ITIL framework guidelines

Travel to our Pretoria campus for system support when needed

Log calls with external providers where and when necessary

Participate in regular staff meetings, staff training programs, supervisory sessions, and accept

the responsibility for aiding the development of positive team relationships as requested.

Work with the IT Manager to identify single points of failure and to work out Disaster Recovery plans

Make recommendations to the IT Manager on improving systems and processes

and budget items

Stay abreast of latest technology and work with IT Manager on potential upgrades

Perform and support other tasks as identified by the Technology Manager


Required Qualifications

Matric Certificate

MCP, MCSE and MCITP or other related certificates

BSc degree in Computer Science or relevant field

Preferred Qualifications


Networking qualifications or equivalent eg CCNP


Three or more years of recent and successful experience as a Server and Systems administrator, managing, coordinating and administering the following in large (3000+ users/accounts) enterprises:

Project manage technology systems related to server hardware, server systems, automation, server and infrastructure refreshes.

Virtual clustering and troubleshooting experience with Hyper-V and VMware

Administration of Office 365, Google Suite, Skype for Business

Designing, implementing, managing and administering Office 365, including but not limited to Exchange Online, Azure, SharePoint, OneDrive, ADFS, OneNote, etc.

Installing, configuring and maintaining of enterprise server solutions eg. HP blade systems, HP ProLiant servers, Dell and Intel servers

Automate tasks and to change settings in bulk

Microsoft Active Directory, including creating bulk user accounts, deleting and modifying user accounts, setting up e-mail, home directories

TCP/IP v4 and v6 protocol, DHCP, DNS, SNMP, SMTP, FTP, HTTP, HTTPS, ICMP

Microsoft System Centre DPM, SCCM and SCOM

Installing public and local certificates on various systems

Firewall Management using FortiGate

Managing Antivirus in an enterprise like McAfee

Microsoft SQL and queries

Hardware and software troubleshooting - critically analysing symptoms, diagnose faults, plan and take appropriate action on equipment including PCs, printers, servers, and networking etc.

Experience managing, administering and maintaining Apple Mac’s with Mac OSX and Apple iOS

Business continuity and disaster recovery strategies, methodologies and practice
