Main job function

To organise and oversee all security operations of the company. Security personnel will be under your command while you develop and implement policies and procedures to maintain security standards. As security manager, you will have to demonstrate excellent surveillance and emergency response skills. You will need a strong commitment to security rules and knowledge of all hazards and threats to safety. Since you will have several people under your responsibility, you must also exhibit leadership skills. The goal is to create and preserve an environment where employees, visitors and property are safe and well-protected.



Grade 12



10 years of experience as Security Manager in remote areas and managing reaction units in a mining environment

10 years of experience on Security technology including alarms, cameras, and control rooms

Security Protocols and Procedures

Experience with Budgeting and Budgetary planning

Leadership experience, communication skills as well as reporting skills

Higher education in Security Administration or Security Management will be an advantage

Legal knowledge with regards to Public Safety and Public Security


Other skills

Develop and implement security Policies, Protocols and Procedures

Control budgets for security operations and monitor expenses

Recruit, train and supervise security officers and guards

Attend meetings with other managers to determine operational needs

Attend meetings with senior management and board of directors and present the security strategy and results

Plan and coordinate security operations for specific events

Coordinate staff when responding to emergencies and alarms

Review reports on incidents and breaches

Investigate and resolve issues

Create reports for management on security status

Analyse data to formulate proposals for improvements (e.g., implementation of new technology)

Maintain a high level of intelligence on the security on the area where the mine is situated

Establish and maintain a good relationship with the Police, (Local & National) and Security Companies within the area

Providing protection for personnel and company property through the management of security protocols

Developing, implementing, and maintaining security policies to meet required codes and regulations.

Utilizing a strong knowledge of access control systems, CCTV equipment and investigations

Managing the performance of contract security personnel

Acting as a liaison with local law enforcement agencies

Providing security education and awareness activities

Preparing and maintaining all required security documentation and reports

Co-ordinating and administering security clearances and other security policies and procedures

Preparing and managing budgets and expenditure

Creativity and innovation in deploying security technologies
