Job Description:

A QUALITY MANAGER position at a leading FMCG Home and Personal Care manufacturing concern to manage the quality function including supervision at the manufacturing site assuring compliance with defined procedures and systems. The Quality Manager is responsible for maintaining the quality systems in conformance with internal policies and external requirements including the development and improvement of GMP plans and testing and inspection plans for incoming, in-process and finished goods, and process, packaging and product specifications. Based in Boksburg, Johannesburg

Main job function

Quality Assurance - Develop and implement appropriate verification programs and systems to manage product quality and minimize non-conformance. Assure customer requirements are met and plant is in compliance with applicable regulations. Communicate significant issues to management for resolution on a timely basis.

Manage Department Personnel- Develop departmental personnel to effectively execute the requirements of the quality system as they apply to the quality control department. Set performance standards, provide feedback & follow up.

Decision Making - Responsible for making technical decisions that involve risk assessment and compliance, which can affect both product costing and customer satisfaction.

Developing Others - Develop training and communication programs in support of continuous improvement in of quality and safety. Develop appropriate technical skills within work group and general plant population.

Technical Leadership - Design and implement elements of the quality system, obtain and communicate technical information as appropriate to plant process and in support of operations improvement.

Cost Management - Manage the cost of compliance with the cost of non-conformance constantly seeking to find the least cost approach to assuring Customer requirements are met. Develop budgets for department, work to reduce costs.

Ensure compliance with regulations and internal Company policies on SHE.

Compliance Assurance - must interpret regulations, customer requirements, and specifications, develop quality systems that are effective and workable within general plant capabilities. Work with customers, R&D, Division QA, Engineering, and plant manufacturing to find most effective and efficient process and compliance systems.

Continuous Improvement Leader - must work with external personnel including customers and suppliers and all work levels within the plant organization to develop programs for improvement in quality and safety, and address plant non-conformance issues.

Communication/Representation - Must communicate quality and safety standards with credibility to internal and external personnel and represent interests of both parties when appropriate. Technical knowledge, ability to meet commitments and interpersonal communication style are critically important to maintaining credibility. Must address conflict in a professional manner and resolve conflict in the best interest of the business, working to improve employee and customer relationships while building confidence in plant systems and capabilities.

Technical Knowledge - Must possess thorough understanding of the elements of an effective quality system and effective knowledge of plant processes, packaging and products. Ability to support innovation through own ideas and developing ideas form others in a manner consistent with company and customer expectations for quality and safety.

Qualifications:

Relevant BTech or BSc qualification

Minimum of 3 to 5 years QC supervisory experience within the home and personal care manufacturing industry

Experience:

Excellent computer skills including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint

Experience in working with ERP systems especially SAP and Syspro

Excellent communication and teamwork skills with an ability to interact with senior management
