is seeking to appoint a

 

Project Officer Infrastructure (POI) for the Swiss Business Hub

 

The Swiss Business Hub Southern Africa is the Pretoria-based representative of the official international trade and investment promotion agency Switzerland Global Enterprise (S-GE). It is responsible for implementing Swiss export strategies in Southern and Eastern Africa.

 

The position of the Project Officer Infrastructure is part of the Swiss Government’s approach to improve access for Swiss companies to large foreign infrastructure projects. This position will act as a scout in the Southern and Eastern Africa region to identify suitable projects, connect with the relevant local stakeholders and to raise the awareness of Swiss competences in infrastructure and to generate leads. The POI will have broad technical and business expertise and a good network to assist in sourcing of infrastructure projects. The incumbent will work closely together with the stakeholders of Team Switzerland (State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC), Swiss Export Risk Insurance (SERV), Swissrail, Swissmem, S-GE and other Swiss industry associates).

 

Main job function:

Networking and promotion

·       Build networks with the relevant local stakeholders and establish a network with Swiss companies having interest in infrastructure projects in Southern and Eastern Africa.

·       Build networks with key government contacts who are responsible for official tenders of large-sized infrastructure projects.

·       Identify and liaise with the local offices of the International Finance Institute (Multilateral Development Banks and Funds (IFI)) coordinate accordingly with stakeholders of Team Switzerland.

·      Organize public relation activities to promote the Swiss infrastructure knowhow and capabilities via success stories, best practices, articles, and other relevant formats.

Project sourcing

·      Identify relevant infrastructure projects and matching them with the competences of the Swiss infrastructure industry.

·     Support Swiss companies to access relevant projects.

Engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) scouting and relationship management

·      Build upon existing knowledge and further develop a strong awareness of the EPC ecosystem in Southern and Eastern Africa.

·      Collaborate with EPCs or their subsidiaries in coordination with Team Switzerland.

Market monitoring, information generation and sharing (digital platform)

·      Maintain a clear overview of the ongoing projects, planned initiatives and status of individual projects and enter data into the digital platform.

·      Update, maintain and support the expansion of the digital platform.

Strong interaction and coordination with the Embassy.

·    Organize and follow a clear information flow within the mission and consistently practice an adequate interaction between SBH, General Consulate, Swiss Embassy, and various stakeholders locally.

·     Involve and align with the Embassy to coordinate the communication to and with relevant stakeholders (EPC and/or Governmental bodies).

Qualifications:
  • University degree (Hons or Masters) in Economics, Finance or Engineering.
  • Preferably with further education in business administration, international relations, or politics
Experience:

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years work experience in large infrastructure project development environment, trade promotion and at the interface between business, administration, and diplomacy.
  • Experience in the engineering and construction industry or infrastructure consulting.
  • Expertise in opportunity identification, business development and lead generation.
  • Familiar with the fields of innovation, cleantech, green solutions, mobility, and renewable energy.
  • Leading high-level public and private delegations.

 

Competences

  • Excellent relationship-management with multi-stakeholders, strong relationship builder and networker.
  • Very good technical skills and understanding of infrastructure processes and related financial models.
  • Strong knowledge of the Southern and Eastern Africa infrastructure environment, including financing and EPCs.
  • Previous knowledge of Switzerland and Swiss infrastructure industry is an asset in the selection process.
  • Existing network to Government administration, public authorities and to decision-makers strongly desired.
  • Excellent communication and contract negotiation skills.
  • Proven hands-on project management skills.
  • Strategic thinking and acting with the ability to generate “Win-Win” situations.
  • Analytical and conceptual thinking with the ability to provide targeted business intelligence.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of sustainable development and environmental challenges.
  • Team player and strong facilitator: work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
