Our client based in Pietermaritzburg, is seeking a Product Development Engineering Manager. The successful incumbent’s purpose of the role is through the utilisation of the PDE technical team, provide direction in the development of products and manufacturing processes to the team. Through the utilisation of resource management tools, ensure that the PDE team’s activities are in line with the overall company strategic objectives with regards to product and process development. Main job function
Product Development (responsible):
Cost and time management of all product development-related projects, including prototype designs, technical qualification and testing
Manufacturing process design and implementation throughout the factory
Continuous improvement of products and manufacturing processes
Quality Management (support):
Assist the Quality department in the reduction of production waste throughout the factory
Provide guidance to the receipt inspection team on all related incoming materials to be used on manufactured products
Assist with guidelines during the supplier qualification and audit processes
Sales and Marketing:
Assist in the compilation of tenders and other customer enquiries by completing all technical submissions
Address and close-out of all technical, product-related customer complaints
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, preferably BSc (Eng.)
Professional registration with ECSA
Management certification will be an added advantage
Experience/Criteria
Design project engineering and management
Legal knowledge required (as amended)
Engineering Profession Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act
Basic understanding of South African Labour Laws
Personnel Management and ISO 9001
Quality Management Standard and related systems
A minimum of 10 years of product development engineering experience including manufacturing
A minimum of 5 years in the role of managing a technical team, preferably engineers Experience in the electrical power transmission and distribution industry a distinct advantage
