Operations Manager/Commercial Manager (Ref: MEOM)

Job Description:

Our client is seeking an Operations/Commercial Manager to be based in Isithebe. The successful incumbent will be responsible for the daily management of all non-production related matters and have a good understanding of the technical side of the Organization, to relieve the Factory Manager in his absence

Main job function

Raw Materials - Purchasing and ordering of all raw materials and management of the complete supply chain including quality and specifications of these products

MRP Planning - Budget and planning of raw material requirements including:

Collection of information from sales and marketing staff on a continuous basis

Use information in order to predict raw material requirements to ensure ordering in time for optimal production

Forecast changes in volumes given change in customer requirements/new customers

New products/new raw material requirements identified such as FSC/PEFC certification

Balance orders between suppliers/mills to ensure that they operate within allocated volumes from suppliers

Liaise directly with all suppliers

Provide forecast to suppliers of expected off-take

Negotiate pricing and supply agreements with suppliers

Management of consignment stock and levels

Maintaining acceptable raw material stock levels

Product Development and Sales Personnel -

Investigate new raw materials available to the market and subsequent product development that would give The Company the competitive edge

Develop new products to further increase product offerings and/or improvement to current customer base

Arrange for trial material and prototype products to be run to offer to customers

Liaise with Sales Director and Factory Manager to determine pricing and feasibility to run said products on current lines taking capacity available into consideration

Liaise and meet with sales personnel on new market and product developments on a weekly basis

Customer Orders -

Process stock orders for customers

Ensure loaded B.O.M. are correct and available before sending to production

Strong focus on new ordering system via internet / shop ware

Administration – Responsible for all administration functions on site as required by head office in Cape Town. This will include the duties and responsibilities of all Admin Employees

Personnel –

Trade Union matters, Wage negotiations, Employment equity, Disciplinary hearings

Updating of Employee duties and responsibilities

Leave applications and authorization

Wage transfer approval weekly

Training and Development – Continuous monitoring thereof with Factory Manager

Month End Stock Take –

Run all variance reports & ensure that variance reports are signed off explaining the variances

Once all reports are run, ensure the info is tabulated into excel spreadsheet to work out the margins

Monitor and analyse the companies spending expenditure & inventory controls

Maintain & update the pricing of raw material on the system

Credit Notes Sign off with Factory Manager

Creditors – Authorise payments

BBBEE / ISO / FSSC / FSC / PEFC - All arrangements in order to do yearly verifications

Subcontractor and long term Agreements - Monitoring thereof for Expiry dates, Increase / inflation clauses, Renewals, Terminations

FGW, Despatch and Logistics - Warehouse to be kept to a minimum in order to avoid additional storage costs

Information Systems - Final responsibility for Syspro and Shop ware systems via the various support personnel and structures

Gemba Walk - Attend the weekly Gemba walks in order to be updated regarding production matters

Regular meetings with Factory Manager in order to keep each other updated concerning mutual company matters

Finished Goods Warehouse Stock - To report the stock situation to the Sales Director, C.E.O., Sales Managers and RSA Staff

Quarterly Management Meeting - Applicable dates, agenda, minutes and circulation to all concerned

Company Policies - Implementation thereof as per the management manual. New policies can be created and changes to current ones made as circumstances change, with approval of C.E.O. Any changes must be communicated to all personnel concerned

Qualifications:

Qualifications

Mechanical/ Industrial Engineer/MBA/B Com Management

Experience:

Experience/Criteria

10 Years’ experience in an Production environment
