Job Description:

A leading Retail Company based in Durban is seeking a Merchandise Executive to join their team

Main job function

To achieve and exceed the Chains’ Sales, inflow margin (Input PMO) and GP Rands as signed off at the seasonal business plan meetings

To develop, influence and drive the division’s seasonal product, pricing and purchasing strategy in line with Chains objectives

To effectively source merchandise in accordance with the approved product matrix that meets the target customers’ needs in terms of price, quality and fashion ability to deliver to the Chains’ agreed value proposition; taking into consideration competitor activity

To give input into Company strategy and formulate a clearly defined product strategy for the Chain in line with Company strategy

To develop and implement a strategy to ensure that the correct supplier/s are sourced, selected and developed for the Chains and to manage them according to Chains policies and procedures

To develop and implement the agreed quality specifications and standards and to ensure compliance

To determine and manage the merchandise procurement process to ensure on time delivery with reference to the agreed Chains critical path

To ensure that the appropriate product is selected and proposed to maximize sales in support of the agreed marketing and in-store visual merchandising plan

To develop and influence cross-functional partnerships with all specified key relationships.  Specifically, but not limited to:

Planning, with regards to stock management, including markdowns

IT, with regards to projects and reporting requirements

Finance, with regards to seasonal budgets etc

Marketing, with regards to building and promoting the brand

To manage structure and placements (people) within the team to maximize productivity and achieve Chains objectives

To develop and empower the Buying team by implementing sound people management practices, employee relations and a climate and culture of high performance. 

To cost-effectively manage expenses within the Chains’ approved merchandise cost center budget.

To continuously review the buying function and its methodology and identify and implement improvements

Qualifications:

Matric + relevant tertiary qualification

Experience:

Excellent Numeracy Skills

Advanced Excel

Strategic and forward thinking

Business Acumen

Able to communicate effectively at all levels

Show Initiative, Tenacity and be very Proactive

Resistance to stress relating to deadlines and retail cycle

Customer service driven (internal and external)

Have high work standards

Have extensive knowledge of merchandise system
