A company based in Durban is seeking an Infrastructure Architect. The successful incumbent will be responsible to plan & coordinate the design, installation, & connectivity of computer systems & network infrastructure to ensure the stable operation of the Company IT assets. This includes developing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all new & existing network hardware & communication links as well as telephone, data center, IT security & power infrastructure.

Main job function
Data/Voice Network
Liaise with appointed network service providers to maintain & monitor the data network according to agreed standards
Provide first line support to end users experiencing network problems & escalate when required
Analyse existing infrastructure systems to ensure they offer adequate security and are effectively meeting the needs of the organization
Analyze business requirements to identify where they can integrate new hardware, operating systems, or connectivity solutions
Lead the design and review processes for new systems by developing and documenting the proposed technical design for the integration and implementation of any new software, working across the IT department
Server Management
Monitor the backup processes to ensure business continuity & disaster recovery standards are met & design & recommend improvements
Control access to the data centre at the various sites & ensure environmental standards are maintained

Telephony
Ensure users are provided with optimal voice communications
Moderate user requests for & if necessary, facilitate expansion to the VOIP system
Project Management
Manage infrastructure related projects according to the agreed methodology as agreed from time to time
Manage the technical delivery of non-infrastructure projects
Influence technical decisions on a variety of strategic projects and ensure that the agreed objectives are delivered within the original project scope
Procurement
Provide specifications for required equipment & request quotations in accordance with company governance standards
Assist with the creation of capital expenditure forms & purchase requisitions for IT equipment
Diploma in Information Systems or equivalent
Project management qualification
10 Years in Information Technology with specific experience in managing and configuring enterprise-wide LANs, WANs, WLANs, VPNs
Knowledge of current protocols and standards, including Active Directory, Group Policies, MS Exchange, Core Switching/Routing, SSL/IPSec, SAN, Virtualization, Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery
Knowledge of Cloud technology & hosted environments
Knowledge of VOIP solutions
Knowledge of infrastructure support systems such as UPS etc
