Main job function
Ensure the Mine Health and Safety Act, 1996 (act no.29 of 1996) safety and health standards are maintained. Work with the chief safety officer and risk and compliance manager to ensure best practices are employed. Report any compliance issues to relevant management for correction measures.
Identify and provide relevant Human Resource interventions which will assist the organization to attain its objectives.
Develop, implement, and maintain talent management strategies for the company.
Implement and monitor performance management system against set targets and competencies.
Conduct career discussions and implement actions with all identified talent.
Provide coaching to line leaders on how to conduct performance management discussions.
Assist in coordination and implementation of the company’s Employment Equity and Skills Development Plans.
Participate in labour planning and ensure labour is supplied in line with approved plans and budgets. Assist in managing recruitment and selection of candidates and, where applicable, in close collaboration with the Community Relations Team. Conduct recruitment interviews. Manage Recruitment, Selection, and Assessment processes.
Work with Training Manager and HR Administrator to implement onboarding for selected candidates.
Manage labour stability by implementing appropriate labour management practices.
Ensure discipline is maintained within the organization and manage HR Officers (should they be appointed) daily duties.
Ensure that relevant HR Policies, Procedures, and Systems are implemented and adhered to.
Support Employee Retention and HR Customer Relations.
Co-ordinate and submit all HR legislative, monthly, and ad-hoc reports
Assist in effective cost control measures and ensure relevant processes are in place to reduce costs.
Any other responsibility that can be reasonably expected in this role/function.
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management or equivalent
Honours Degree advantageous
Driver’s license (Code 8)
Minimum of 7 years’ experience in HR.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience on management level within the mining industry.
Experience in Sage VIP.
Experience in Time and Attendance Systems.
Excellent written and verbal proficiency in English.
Computer literate (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Knowledge and understanding of the relevant acts and bodies (e.g., Labour Relations Act, BCEA, EEA, Disciplinary procedures).
Demonstratable managerial skills (planning, leading, organizing, controlling).
Communication, engagement, and influencing skills.
Knowledge of CCMA/Bargaining processes.
Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
