Job Description:

A company based in Ladysmith is seeking a Group Manager: Electrical Engineer (Heavy Current) to join their team. The successful incumbent will be reporting into the Divisional Head: Engineering & Projects and will be responsible for the overall responsibility for Electrical Engineering activities within the Plant

Main job function

Coordination of electrical/electronic/instrumentation capex design, justification and submission of applications

Assist in co-ordination of improvement projects to increase efficiencies and reduce cost

Coordination of Channel partners and Systems Integrators for Rockwell Automation supply of Allen Bradley – Rockwell hardware and software

To find Systems Integrators to help company solve production challenges by advising and delivering solutions

Technical expertise and support for electrical, electronic and instrumentation plant and equipment

Facilitate electrical, electronic and instrumentation training

Electrical, electronic and instrument equipment and component standardization

Electrical Heavy and Light current and Instrumentation standards and practices and maintenance programs

To conduct inspections/audits of electrical, electronic and instrumentation plant and equipment

Coordination of electrical energy conservation and reduction actions

Planning and controlling capex and budgets

The planning, organization and coordinating of all electrical/electronics and instrumentation engineering activities regarding compliance to SA law with regards to OHSA, Environmental and other applicable legislation

Knowledge and operation of LV and MV Switchgear and Control gear, electrical MV Network Analysis and calculations

Working knowledge and operation of hardware and software used in the factory i.e. AC and DC Drives, Servo motion control and applications, PLC equipment/Programmable automation controllers, HMI’s, SCADA Software, field bus communication and ancillary electrical and electronic equipment

BSc Electrical Engineering Degree (Heavy Current) preferred or BTech Electrical Engineering Degree (Heavy Current)

Must be registered with ECSA as a Pr.Eng. or Pr.Tech.Eng.

Electrical Engineers Certificate of Competency (GCC) would be an advantage


Minimum 10 Years proven experience in a leadership position gained in a Manufacturing environment a MUST

Experience in the application of world class manufacturing techniques and a high Degree of Computer Literacy essential

An Electrical Simulation Software knowledge would be an advantage
