Job Description:

Our client is a logistics solutions provider operating from South Africa and most Southern African ports. We are currently seeking to appoint a self-motivated individual to the role of Group Credit Manager.  This role is based in Durban, South Africa

The role falls within the finance department and reports to the Financial Director. Internally, the role also works closely with the Commercial, Legal and Operations Departments. Significant external interaction with customers and credit insurers is also required. The Group Credit Manager is responsible for managing a team of debtors clerks, overseeing collections and ensuring that the Company’s credit risk is sufficiently mitigated.

 Main job function

 ·        Conduct credit assessments for new and existing customers and recommend and/or approve credit limits within defined authority levels.

·        Maintain database of up-to–date and relevant customer records and documents and manage periodic review of existing debtor’s book.

·        Oversee and manage timeous collections and actively manage, monitor and report on credit exposure, including identifying slow-paying customers and recommending collection solutions.

·        Monitor payment allocations and reconciliation of customer accounts.

·        Manage credit insurance and credit risk mitigation process.

Regular, accurate and timeous reporting to executive management as required (weekly, monthly, quarterly and annually).

·        Related qualification in accounting, business management, credit or debtors management.


·        A Minimum of 5 years experience in similar role at a senior level.

·        Knowledge and experience in commodities markets preferred.

·        Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·        High level of computer literacy, with the ability to work in MS Office applications as well as to adapt to company IT systems.

·        Excellent leadership skills and ability to manage people and build relationships.

·        Ability to multi task and handle multiple and changing priorities within agreed timeframes.

·        Superior organizational skills and ability to work in a fast paced and deadline driven environment and act with a sense of urgency at all times.

·        Solid problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise independent critical thinking.

·        Resilient and self-motivated with the ability to work independently to complete tasks.

·        Highly analytical with excellent attention to detail.
