Main job function
Reporting to the COO - The Engineering and Maintenance Manager manages and organizes resources to safely install, maintain and repair equipment and systems within the manufacturing facilities from a strategic point of view in line with the company's overall objectives. With a strong foundation in the principles of WCM, RCM and TPM, the Manager translates organizational requirements into strategic plans for the department and facilitates cross-functional collaboration and continuous improvement
The individual optimizes systems and services, develops asset care plans and manages risk. Apart from ensuring that the team meets key objectives, the Manager also controls the budget for expenses and projects. The position entails ensuring optimal performance of physical assets throughout their life cycles, ensuring effective teamwork across all disciplines, managing operations from an engineering perspective, maintaining safety outputs within a strict legislative and highly regulated environment; and ensuring and maintaining competency of sub-ordinates who are engaged and committed. The Engineering and Maintenance Manager is a role model in operational excellence, and an affable, influential, and inspiring leader, who communicates well. The individual has an analytical mind and thinks strategically to resolve problems through effective decisions in complex situations
The successful incumbent will lead a multidisciplinary team to achieve business objectives for Safety, Productivity, Quality, Costs, Human resource capability development and Asset Care
A tertiary qualification: BEng/BSC in Electrical Engineering is essential, augmented by a tertiary qualification in management and/or business administration
A Government Certificate of Competency (GCC - Factories) with experience as an appointed GMR2 essential
FMCG experience specifically in Tissue or Paper and Pulp is essential
A minimum of 10years' experience at a senior management level, preferably in a Pulp and Paper manufacturing environment or equivalent
Proven leadership track record with a strong ability to think and plan strategically
Excellent interpersonal, motivational and team building skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with the flexibility to effectively respond to continually changing internal and external business conditions
Well-developed verbal, written and oral presentation communication skills upwards and downwards
Strong ability to think logically, rationally, and laterally
Strong financial aptitude
Proven change management track record
Proven track record of managing large projects and contractors (feasibility studies, tender process, benchmarking cost control, execution, and contractor management)
KPI driven (OEE, Availability, MTBF, MTTR, Safety and Cost)
Progress and reliability focused with a strong foundation in WCM, RCM and TPM principles
Strategically geared towards Maintenance/Replacement Strategies (Predictive and Preventative), Technological Development, Continuous Improvement, Shut-Down Maintenance, Breakdown maintenance, Facilities maintenance, Vehicle maintenance, Workshops, and Condition monitoring
Experienced with interdisciplinary functions: Mechanical, Electrical, Control & Instrumentation, Civil, Design & Draughting, Chemical, Production and Process
Experienced in Industrial Relations and labor practices
