PURPOSE/MAIN JOB FUNCTION
The purpose of this role is to provide labour and employment law services to clients. In addition, the candidate will be expected to lead, grow and manage the employment law department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Represent clients at the Labour Court, CCMA and Bargaining Councils
· Drafting of opinions, employment contracts, policies, strategic correspondence, settlement agreements and disciplinary charge sheets
· Dispute resolution counselling and conflict management
· Due diligence investigations on all aspects of employment law
· Conducting and providing advice to clients in respect of internal disciplinary hearings
· Market and grow the labour department
· Perform quality work and maintain solid relationships with clients to ensure that the firm continues to get work from clients
· Delegate work to juniors to increase their professional skills
· Train and develop CAs, associates and secretaries
· Represent the firm internally and externally in negotiations, disputes, consultations and other proceedings that require labour legal representation
· Monitor, analyze and report on associates and secretaries’ productivity and performance
· Carry out such other tasks as may be assigned by partners of the firm
· Coach associates on career advancement and skills development strategies
· Collect fees from clients
· LLB Degree
· Admitted Attorney
EXPERIENCE
· 10 years plus post admission experience (labour & employment law)
· Rights to appear in court
· Strong skills in drafting a variety of labour and employment law documents and communicating complex issues clearly and concisely
· Ability to review under strict deadlines long and complex legal documents
