Job Description:

A company based in Durban is seeking an Electronic Engineer to join their team

Main job function

Maintenance, Supervision and Contract Management (FIDIC Gold Book) of some toll plazas in KwaZulu-Natal

Plaza Operations, Toll Systems, Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance supervision

Identifying risks, assumptions and constraints associated with the implementation of the toll system

Defining the scope for the project (in the case of new tenders)

Drafting technical reports, cost estimates and contract documentation

Tender Adjudication

Performance Monitoring

Providing fit for purpose engineering solutions

Ensure effective project plans are created, maintained and kept up to date as appropriate to reflect the status of project activities; this includes clearly articulating plus tracking all critical path activities

Communicate changes to the project plan, along with project risks, ensuring the project is tracking to budgeted scheduled completion dates

Ensure effective management of assigned internal and external resources toward the

common goal of the Project

Interfacing with the Client and Contractor to ensure Project Objectives are met in a timely manner

Investigate public complaints

Ensure audit files sent from plaza level is an accurate reflection of the plaza traffic

Review payment certificate traffic data and reconcile to plaza lane level

Maintaining an up to date technical knowledge of design

Approve specifications and ensure compliance with the contract

Undertaking appropriate research and investigation into any design modifications /


Inspecting works in progress or at completion for final compliance and quality assurance grading

Inspect project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications

Perform asset inspections

Management of changes to the project scope, schedule and budget

Evaluation of functional specifications, method statements and ATP

Testing and commissioning (i.e. Software Factory Acceptance, Functional Compliance,

Provisional Compliance, System Compliance) of new lane equipment hardware and software platforms and integration with Plaza Level Management Interface software

Evaluating Escrow agreement

Evaluating the Automatic Vehicle Classification accuracy

Monitoring of Queue Length System

Evaluate area lighting and propose energy efficient solutions

Evaluate SCADA systems for Plaza UPS, Generators and Access control

Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) testing and commissioning

Compiling toll system Snag-list, Relaxation and Deviations register

Assessing results of corrective action undertaken by the Contractor in rectifying system snags and defects

Compiling bi-monthly progress project reports

Attending contracts meetings, reviewing minutes and follow up on action list

Facilitate the Project handover to next Contractor

Project documentation consolidation and close out report


Degree in Electronic Engineering

Ideally, Professional Engineering Council of South of South Africa (ECSA) registration either as Professional Engineer or Professional Technologist


The incumbent should have at least 5-10 Years work experience in electronic engineering with a project and systems engineering background

Preference will be given to incumbents with experience in the implementation and testing of toll systems
