Our client in the food industry are currently seeking the skills of an Assistant Plant Engineer to be based in Cape Town. The successful incumbent will manage engineering related functions

Ensure machinery is available and is utilized to full capacity
Utility management
Engineering skills assessment
Skills development program execution
Custodian of preventative maintenance program
Downday planning
Assist engineering on downdays with preventative maintenance
Auditing of preventative maintenance on a weekly basis
Managing engineering H&S programs
Managing engineering food safety programs
Capex and Opex project planning and execution
Day to day operational support, ensuring equipment availability
Engagement with Production Manager on operational improvement projects
Oversee stock bi-weekly, month-end and end of year stocktake
Engineering budget control
Weekly budget meetings and feedback sessions
Supplier and SLA management
Apprenticeship program development
Engineering team leave planning
Qualifications
Matric
N4 Electrical Engineering and/or Mechanical Engineering
Experience/Criteria
Interact effectively with associates at all organizational levels and within Group
Read and process written information with a high degree of accuracy
Work effectively in a food manufacturing environment
Good English communication skills (both written and oral)
Computer Literacy essential
Ability to develop and successfully lead diverse teams
Conflict resolution skills
Able to stand for up to 12 hours, while working with and around machinery.
Ability to work in a plant environment for extended periods of time (high temperature/high noise environment)
Ability to work in a maintenance workshop environment for extended periods of time (high noise)
8 years + Millwright experience in FMCG environment (Fast Moving Consumer Goods)
5 years experience in a supervisory position
Bakery experience essential
Knowledge of GMP, HACCP, Food Safety, SOP, Pest control and Bakery operation.
Willingness to work rotating shifts as well as weekends and public holidays in a fresh bakery environment should a need arise.
Required bakery and maintenance workshop PPE to be worn.
